Tips to Workout on a Treadmill
62Learning to workout on a treadmill is a great way to whip your body into shape. Exercising on a treadmill revs up the metabolism, improves lung function, and conditions the body. But to get the most from this type of cardio workout, maintaining motivation and preventing injuries are the most important things.
Wear running shoes that fit properly to reduce the risk of injuries to the legs, knees, heels, calves and ankles. Proper running shoes should provide shock absorption as well as heel, ankle, and arch support during a workout on a treadmill.
Walk slowly on the treadmill for three to five minutes to warm the muscles, lubricate the joints, and prepare the heart for the stress of a workout. Once your muscles are warmed, increase the treadmill speed to a comfortable pace. Beginners should start slow; overdoing treadmill exercises can cause injuries. Increase the intensity of your treadmill workout as your fitness level improves.
Run with your knees bent and use long heel-toe strides while working out on a treadmill. This will help minimize shock to the joints and prevent blowing out a knee. After months of doing the same exercise the muscles become accustomed, and the workouts are no longer effective. So vary the intensity levels of your treadmill workout to challenge the body.
Listen to upbeat music or watch your favorite television program to prevent boredom while working out on a treadmill. However, don’t let the music or TV cause too much of a distraction and compromise your safety. Running on a treadmill helps work up a sweat, so drink plenty of water to stay properly hydrated.

Hi, I had a treadmill once, but as I ride a bike everywhere I was too tired to do it! But I did enjoy it at the time, and know I am putting on weight again, I think I may need one now! cheers nell
